For example, if I run up a hill and realise my HR has increased.... should I stop and get it down as quick as possible, or run slowly and let it gradually lower?
Nicole's reply:
Hi Ciara, if you exceed your MAF HR, rather than stop, try slowing down your running pace or walking until your HR comes down. If you find that you exceed your MAF heart rate often, try anticipating the situations when this might happen and adjust your pace ahead of time. I know that with hills my HR climbs quite quickly so when I get to my MAF HR minus 5 for example, I will walk in order to make sure that I don't go over.
